Fort Drum Welcomes ASA!
In a weekend filled with events, the East York lacrosse team was given special access to experience a soldiers training at Fort Drum, NY. Last spring, the team sent over 800 pounds of items to the 10th Mountain Sustainment Division in Iraq as well as customized lacrosse sticks bearing the York and 10th Mountain logo's. Over the course of two days, they experienced many of the same training exercises as the soldiers they sponsor. This included: a field Medical Evacuation, where they carried a teammate through the same obstacle course as the soldiers, including simulated bomb drops and gunfire; a virtual shooting range to train with an M9 handgun and an M-5 semi-automatic machine gun; a virtual convoy through computer simulated, but accurate, Iraqi streets; witnessing an artillery round dropping a quarter mile away and many more activities. It was a weekend the kids and parents will never forget. Special thank you to Betty Jones, FRC director and Kerry Coppini, FRC leader, Tonie Busby, as well as Erica, Betty's daughter, for making this weekend so special.
