Homecoming Celebration (Fort Campbell, KY) & (4 Northern Kentucky cities) Read exciting details below sent to ASA by Julie Schuler, Villa Hills, KY.
Subject: Adopt a Unit update- please send to all council members
Mayors:
I just received this from LTC Burwell. LTC Burwell and CPT Martin informed our Adopt a Unit committee that it would be impossible to try to get 350 soldiers to our Northern Ky area. Because of the cost of gas and limited transportation means this task could not happen.
LTC Burwell recommended that we can come down to Fort Campbell on Feb. 14, 2009 and help them celebrate their "Homecoming Celebration bash at that time. I know your Adopt a Unit representative has informed you about this change. I will need an idea of who would be coming to this bash. Hopefully, all mayors and wives representing their cities can make it to this bash. This is LTC Burwell's wishes. We have plenty of time to plan ahead to attend and participate in this spectacular event. All 4 units and their adopted cities will be represented at this bash. This would be our opportunity to meet our adopted soldiers and families. How wonderful would that be!!!!
Please inform all your council members so they could make plans to attend the home coming celebration on Feb. 14th. Residents could be informed of this event at your council meeting or on your website and local newsletter. Everyone would have to pay for their own room and food while on this trip. The city can pay for their council members but it cannot come from the Adopt a Unit funds. I do not want to take money that we raised to pay for rooms. This money is for our soldiers so we can help make their home coming celebration huge and spectacular.
All these plans include a special invitation to Linda Patterson from ASA. The founder of this gifted program!!!
LTC Burwell and CPT Martin will also bring a group of our adopted soldiers and wives to our Northern Ky area sometime in February. CPT Martin though possibly it would be after the 14th of Feb. celebration. Once the soldiers are here our Adopt a Unit program will pay for their lodging, food and reception. At this time we could invite press, residents, city officials etc. to meet our adopted soldiers and their families.
It would have been great having all 4 units come to our cities but the new plans are more manageable and we can help pay for both events from the money we raised from our Adopt a Unit efforts. We now have two spectacular parties and events happening.
Again, thank you for all your support in making this Adopt a Unit program so successful!!! There is something to be said for how our four sister cities have been working so well together and for the friendship that grew while we have been together. It has been awesome!!!!
